Architettura Matassoni Prossimo Futuro exhibition installation

An exhibition entitledProssimo Futuro. 45 designer italiani under 40(“Near Future: 45 Italian designers under 40”), curated byLuigi Prestinenza Puglisi and Monica A. G. Scanuis underway at Acquario Romano in Rome until March 23, 2017. The exhibition installation was designed byarchitects Alessandro and Leonardo Matassoni of studio Architettura Matassoni.

As it isa travelling exhibition,Architettura Matassoni’s installation had to meet strict requirements, withlightweight but robust supports andmodularity to ensure that the system could be transported easily andadapted to suit different forms and characteristicsand set up either indoors or outdoors, on wall-mounted or free-standing supports, etc.

The architects thus focused primarily on a single criterion:manipulability.They created an object which could easily be manipulated to present the 45 projects in the exhibition in an innovative way which hasa greater ability to involve the publicthan a conventional exhibition panel. The architects designed a "folding box" made of unusual lightweight materials whichencloses the past,recalling a colour sample kit, which is handled like a dial telephone,but also the future,because it is inspired by the futuristic image of airplane doors in numerous science fiction movies and contains the projects by the young designers.
