From September 27 to October 1 in Bologna, the trade fair district will host the 38th edition of Cersaie, the International Exhibition of Ceramics for Architecture and Bathroom Furnishings. An international event of great prestige that is finally able to welcome back visitors in person after the stop imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic. This year’s edition will host many important guests including architect Shigeru Ban, winner of the Pritzker Prize in 2014.
Objects, designs and materials are on display at the Vitra Design Museum Gallery in the exhibition "Memphis: 40 Years of Kitsch and Elegance”, that recounts the world and history of Memphis, the legendary group of Italian designers formed to overturn the dogmas of functionalism which then dominated industrial design, which, although short-lived (from 1981 to 1987), had considerable international influence.
The exhibition dedicated to Tatiana Bilbao Estudio was officially opened at Architekturzentrum Wien on 18 August. The Mexican firm’s most important projects are on shown in Austria for the first time, accompanied by a “cabinet of curiosities” containing samples of the raw materials used, working models and sketches. Visitors will thus be enabled to explore the design approach and architectural vision of Tatiana Bilbao and her firm.
"ZHA Close Up – Work & Research” is the title of the exhibition running until 29 August at MAM Shanghai, which provides China’s first major retrospective of the projects of the Zaha Hadid Architects firm from 1982 onwards. It provides a detailed, precise survey of works of architecture ranging from the MAXXI in Rome (2010) to the Leeza SOHO in Beijing (2019), through to the latest, most innovative projects the firm is undertaking in various parts of the world.
The list of finalists has been announced for the 2021 World Building of the Year and Landscape of the Year awards, prestigious prizes awarded during the World Architecture Festival coming up in Lisbon December 1 through 3, 2021 under the title: Resetting the City: Greening, Health and Urbanism. The competition is open to architecture and landscape projects completed all over the world in the past two years, and the shortlisted projects include works by B.I.G. Architecture, Zaha Hadid Architects, Foster + Partners, Rafael Viñoly Architects, Grimshaw Architects and Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM).
A large installation depicting an abstract kapok tree – considered the fibre of the future – welcomes the projects created by architect Francis Kéré and his team for the exhibition entitled "Arbre à Palabres – Kéré Architecture". The exhibition will be inaugurated on July 16 with a virtual event streamed live from the Aedes Architecture Forum in Berlin.
