Winners of the ARCHMARATHON Awards 2020 Miami

The 2020 edition of the ARCHMARATHON Awards Miami was recently concluded. The final event was held on February 27 to 29 at the Moore Elastika Building in Miami, where the 48 architecture studios selected by an international jury chaired by architect Luca Molinari, were presented. The overall winner for the interior design section was the Valextra Bal Harbor Shops project by ArandaLasch studio, and for the architecture section the Hunter’s Point South Waterfront Park Phase II project designed by the SWA/Balsley and Weiss/Manfredi firms. A special prize for sustainability was awarded to the Mc Donald’s Chicago Flagship project designed by the Ross Barney Architects studio.



Winners of the ARCHMARATHON Awards 2020 Miami

From February 25 to 29, the ArchWeekMiamitook place at the Miami Design District, a full week dedicated to architecture, with important in-store events, workshops, presentations, architecture and design exhibitions. The event follows an effective and consolidated formula proposed in many cities around the world with the aim to connect architects, interior designers, manufacturers and consumers.
Miami’s architecture week ended with a highlight event. The 2020 edition of theARCHMARATHON Awards Miamitook place from February 27 to the 29 at the Moore Elastika Building. The building, built in 1921 and located in the heart of the Design District, is the former furniture showroom of the historic American company “Moore and Sons”. Its central hall houses a site-specific installation designed by architectZaha Hadidfor Art Basel Miami Beach in 2005. In this evocative space, 48 architecture studios selected by the international jury chaired by architectLuca Molinariwere invited to present their projects to a large international audience. TheARCHMARATHON Awards Miamiis, in particular, dedicated to architectural firms active throughout the American continent (United States, Canada, Central and South America).
At the end of the event, the winners of each of the 13 categories were announced, together with 2 overall winners for the main categories (interior design and architecture) and a special prize for sustainability.

TheOverall Winner – Interior Designprize was awarded to theValextra Bal Harbour Shopsdesigned by ArandaLasch, a project that stood out to the jury thanks to the synergies between the architecture firm and the brand’s creative staff, turning the products into works of art rather than using them as regular merchandise displayed in a store.

TheOverall Winner – Architectureprize was awarded to theHunter’s Point South Waterfront Park Phase IIproject by designed by theSWA/Balsley and Weiss/Manfredi studios.Built along the East River in Long Island City (United States), the coastal building depicts a forward-looking strategy for the city of New York in the upcoming decades, a resilience model as it not only provides a solution for the risk of future flooding, but also an important public space for the city. ArchitectsMarion Weiss and Michael Manfredidiscussed the project in detail at theSpazioFMGperl'Architettura, the showroom in Milan owned by theIris CeramicaandFMG Fabbrica Marmi e Graniti, during the presentation of theThe Architects Seriesdocufilm focused on the American firm.

A special prize for sustainability was awarded to theMc Donald’s Chicago Flagshipproject designed by architecture firmRoss Barney Architectsfor meeting all criteria needed to protect both the human and the natural environment.
